From the Forefront Server Security blog:

Engine and definition updates for the Computer Associates (CA) InoculateIT engine will end on September 29th, 2008.

On January 16th, 2007, the Computer Associates (CA) InoculateIT engine was combined with the Computer Associates VET engine. Since the engines were merged, Microsoft has continued to provide engine updates for the InoculateIT engine as a courtesy to customers using the engine.

If you are still using the InoculateIT engine for antivirus scanning, you should disable it for all scan jobs and discontinue engine and definition updates for the engine. For information about engine updating, please read our documentation on TechNet.

microsoft-office-logo.jpgMicrosoft has announced the release of Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS) 2007 with SP1 and Windows Sharepoint Services (WSS) 3.0 with SP1.

This is a significant release as it allows Sharepoint administrators and developers to deploy an SP1 integrated installation of MOSS or WSS on a new server. The RTM version of MOSS and WSS will not run on Windows Server 2008, so the best outcome of this new release is the ability to deploy the products on Windows Server 2008.

The two updated products are available for download now.

The RTM versions of both products are still available for download if you happen to be rebuilding an RTM server, however any new deployments should ideally be installed with SP1 regardless of the operating system you are installing on.

Microsoft have released some great new content on a few of the Technet blog sites.

It must be Service Pack 1 Week at Microsoft.

Exchange Server 2007 SP1

Service Pack 1 for Exchange Server 2007 has finally gone RTM.  This release includes support for Windows Server 2008, enhanced functionality for Outlook Web Access, new administrative tools for Public Folders, and the new Standby Continuous Replication feature for HA/DR.

A full list of what is new is available here.  Make sure you read the release notes before you deploy as there are some important known issues to consider.

Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1

This is an important update for Forefront that is primarily delivering compatiblity with Windows Server 2008 and Exchange Server 2007 SP1, and a rollup of current hotfixes.  One of the great new features is the ability to enter proxy details to download antivirus engine updates during setup.  The Forefront team blog has a full writeup here.

If you are currently running FSE on your Exchange 2007 servers and considering upgrading Exchange to SP1, be sure to upgrade FSE first.

MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0 SP1 Preview

Not to be outdone, the SharePoint team has released a preview into WSS 3.0 SP1 and SharePoint 2007 SP1.  Again this update will provide Windows Server 2008 compatibility, as well as new AJAX enhancements, STSAdm command options, and a rollup of over 60 hotfixes for the WSS and SharePoint products.

Microsoft announced the release of Search Server 2008, which comes in both a free “Express” edition, and a paid enterprise edition.

Microsoft Search Server 2008 Feature Matrix

Microsoft Search Server 2008 is the next version of Office SharePoint Server 2007 For Search. They have basically taken MOSS 2007, stripped it down to just the index and search components, and then added some new enhancements such as a streamlined installation and more connectors to content sources.

Installation is a breeze.

The administrative interface is almost indentical to that of SharePoint Server 2007. For this test install the only configuration changes I made were to set a content access account and some crawl sources on our network.

I’ve chosen a basic theme for the site so the users can pretend its as much fun as using Google.
